2014-12-24 - LIVE UNITED Toy Drive Provides 2,100 Gifts to Story County Children
United Way of Story County (UWSC) partnered with the United States Marine Corps to bring Toys for Tots to Story County for the tenth year. Toy and gift donations for UWSC’s LIVE UNITED Toy Drive were collected from businesses on December 15. The gifts have been distributed to more than 600 children ages newborn to 18 throughout Story County.
"We are excited about the amount of support the people of Story County showed for families in our community who are struggling this holiday season through the LIVE UNITED Toy Drive,” said Kim Voorhees, UWSC employee and toy drive coordinator. “More than 2,100 toys were given, allowing each child to receive three gifts this Christmas. The generous spirit and the personal responsibility we have to take care of our fellow neighbor, improving the quality of life for everyone, is what makes Story County a great place to live and work.”
Volunteers helped to collect, sort and bag toys for each of the following UWSC partner agencies, who then distributed them to local families: Center for Creative Justice, ChildServe, Emergency Residence Project, Legal Aid Society of Story County, The Salvation Army and University Community Childcare.
A record 60 businesses and organizations collected toys and gifts in Story County this year. Since the toy drive began in 2005, nearly 5,000 total children have been served.
