Jane Acker, Martino Harmon, Tony Hogan, Kim Linduska, and Brian Schwartze have joined the United Way of Story County (UWSC) Board of Directors. They are joining 14 other volunteers and will serve for three-year terms.
“United Way of Story County is thrilled to welcome our newest board members,” said Jean Kresse, UWSC president & CEO. “We’re looking forward to putting their talent to good use as we continue to improve lives in our community.”
Acker worked at Youth and Shelter Services until 2007. She has been an active community volunteer at Mary Greeley Medical Center, as a member of the Ames Community School District board from 2001-2005 and again from 2013-2015, on the Parks and Recreation Commission, and on the Ames Public Library board of trustees. Her husband, David, is an administrator in the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and they have three adult children.
Harmon was recently appointed to the position of Iowa State University's senior vice president for student affairs. Previously, he served as the associate vice president at Iowa State since 2013. Before coming to Ames, he served as executive director of student success and retention at Cincinnati State Community College, Ohio; dean of student development at Rhodes State College, Lima, Ohio; and dean of admission, retention and student life at Washtenaw Community College, Ann Arbor, Mich. Harmon earned a bachelor's degree in business administration (1987), master of education (1998) and doctorate in higher education and administration (2013), all from the University of Toledo.
Hogan is president & CEO at Kreg Enterprises located in Huxley, a designer, manufacturer and distributor of consumer woodworking tools and accessories. Other notable life experiences include a 20-year career with Pella Corporation along with volunteer board service in community recreation, church, economic development and United Way. He and his wife, Jil, an elementary learning coach at Roland-Story, have three grownup children and live in Story City.
Linduska serves as the Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs at Des Moines Area Community College, providing not only oversight for all six campuses and three centers, but also the college’s efforts to support those without high school diplomas, ELL learners, and those who need workforce training in order to become self-sufficient. She is active in several organizations, including the Central Iowa Red Cross, Mary Greeley Auxiliary Board, Ames Education Foundation, and state and national higher education advocacy groups. She and her husband, Steve, live in Ames and are the parents of three children.
Schwartze currently serves as Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Kinzler Construction Services. Prior to joining the Kinzler team he coached college and pro football for 20 years. Schwartze now volunteers as a safety director for youth football and coaches baseball and football. He and his wife, Autumn, live in Ames and keep busy driving carpool for their three children.
