
United Way of Story County - in collaboration with many other partners – received a Coronavirus Relief Employer Innovation Grant from the state of Iowa in late September 2020. United Way of Story County was able to offer free, educational programs completed in December 2020. These programs provided training in high-demand industries: MIG Welding, Manufacturing Technician, and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Participants received:
- FREE registration
- FREE tools and books
- FREE computer and internet access
- Interviews and/or on-site employer "meet and greet" sessions with Story County employers
- Childcare vouchers and transportation if needed.
6 individuals graduated the Welding Program held at Nevada High School's welding lab.
11 individuals graduated from the Manufacturing program, which included a Forklift Certification.
9 individuals graduated the Nursing Aide program, becoming CNA's.
