Out-of-School Learning

To keep kids moving forward, we invest heavily in summer and school-year programs through our local partners. These out of school learning opportunities  ensure youth stay sharp, motivated, and fully prepared for lifelong success.

year-round enrichment

The National Summer Learning Association found that teachers usually spend about two weeks going over last year’s material to help students catch up before starting new lessons. Even during the school year, there isn’t always enough time to cover everything. Our partners are here to help support students and offer extra learning opportunities for kids across Story County.

Summer Camps & programs

Every child deserves a summer packed with learning, growth, and fun! United Way of Story County is committed to making summer camps and programs accessible to every family in our community. These experiences do so much more than provide a place to play—they build social connections, support mental well-being, and give kids a major boost for the upcoming school year.

For many families, the cost of summer camp puts these opportunities out of reach. When children miss out on summer learning, the “summer slide” hits hard—low-income students lose an average of two months of reading skills each year, a gap that snowballs to nearly three grade levels behind by the end of fifth grade.

We proud to invest in partners and programs that provide food and educational opportunities for children throughout the summer.
